Adam Levine got a little more "Sugar" than he asked for Wednesday night outside the studio where Jimmy Kimmel Live is shot. As he was signing autographs following a performance on the show, someone ran up and threw what looks like powdered sugar on the Maroon 5 frontman.
The whole scene was captured by fans who were getting autographs at the time and caught in the crosshairs of the attack.
"We were all meeting him talking to him and some guy ran up on him and threw powder all over him!!!" Kristal Klune wrote on Instagram. "Security tackled the guy down and arrested him. Adam walked off, that guy ruined it for all the fans he was greeting."
Los Angeles police arrested 28-year-old Navid Farsi at the scene. He's currently in jail, pending $100,000 bail. According to police, Farsi is a serial offender and Levine is just one of five victims now pressing battery charges against him. He's the same man who threw a rock at The Rock last week, so apparently he likes a theme. (Side note: please do not throw a grand piano at Nicki Minaj.)
Another person who witnessed the attack told CNN that Levine looked royally miffed. "It looked like he wanted to fight the guy," Laura Tijerina, who was waiting for an autograph at the time, said. "I think this guy had it planned. It was a brown bag with tape around it, which was weird. I just saw powder everywhere. It was just so quick."
The whole thing was caught on video as well.
Levine had already taped his interview with Kimmel at the time of the attack, so they didn't discuss it. Coincidentally, they did talk about Levine getting jumped by an overzealous fan at a concert in California last month.
"Was she a 90 pound, harmless girl? Definitely," Levine said. "Did it feel — because it was so jarring and in the moment and my eyes were closed and I was attacked by somebody — did it feel like a sumo wrestler? Yeah."
A representative for Levine did not respond to a request for comment.
